Pro Helvetia has launched a call for residencies in Switzerland and Southern, East, West and Central Africa that is open until 1 March 2023. Furthermore, cultural practitioners can apply for research trips all year long. 

Promoting creative exchange between Switzerland and Southern, East, West and Central AfricaPro Helvetia supports residencies and research trips by cultural practitioners from Switzerland (e.g. artists, curators, event organisers, intermediaries) to Southern, East, West or Central Africa. In addition, Pro Helvetia supports residencies and research trips to Switzerland by cultural practitioners from Southern, East, West or Central Africa. Artists and cultural practitioners from the following fields may apply: 

  • visual arts
  • design and interactive media
  • music
  • literature
  • performing arts
  • artists with a transdisciplinary focus

Funding is available for 

  • Residencies: These last for a maximum of three months and are advertised once a year (application deadline: 1 March 2023). 
  • Research trips: These are limited to four weeks. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, but should be submitted at the latest three months before the start of the trip. 

In a pilot project, Pro Helvetia supports parent artists by offering additional financial support to cover expenses relating to being a parent when participating in a residency or research trip. Read the Fact Sheet: Support for Parent Artists for more information.

Upcoming maintenance work

The application portal myprohelvetia will be updated from 1.1.-7.1.2024. Due to these changes, open applications must be finalized and submitted via the current online portal (myprohelvetia.ch) by the latest 23:59 on 31 December 2023. Until this date, the deadlines and criteria outlined in the current guidelines and calls for applications apply. New applications can be created and submitted in the application portal as of 8 January 2024.
