Theatre perfomer, Rudi van der Merwe will be presenting his work, Trophy at two dance festivals this Febrary and March.

Trophy is a site-specific performance on the themes of hunting, conquest and military tradition. The production will include three performers in baroque dress, accompanied by a drummer, conquering a field like an invading army, adopting postures of trophy wives, hunted animals and ghosts from bygone wars.

The tour includes performances at the Dance Umbrella International Dance Festival, in Johannesburg as well as performances at the public art the ICA Live Arts Festival, in Cape Town.

Rudi studied theatre and French at the University of Stellenbosch modern literature and cinema at the University of Marc Bloch in Strasbourg, France. He has collaborated with a number of artists in contemporary dance such as, Anne Lopez for ‘De l’avant invariablement’, Gilles Jobin for ‘Steak House’ and Cindy van Acker for the solo, ‘Antre’, to name a few.

In 2010, Rudi established the company Skree Wolf (‘cry wolf’ in Afrikaans) and choreographed I’d like to save the world, but I’m too busy saving myself in collaboration with Susana Panadès Diaz (Lausanne, March 2010). He created Solstice in February 2011 at la Salle des Eaux-Vives, Geneva and Miss En Abymein March 2011 at théâtre Sévelin 36, Lausanne.
