I Make Africa | Harare is a web documentary & interactive art exhibition documenting the everyday people creating Africa’s next great cities. With the climate of political change, the first installment of the project was filmed in the city of Harare (Zimababwe), where we interviewed & photographed 6 rousing individuals who chose to share stories about their lives, experiences, hopes and works in the city. Through storytelling by fusing art and virtual reality technology, South African multimedia artist & art director Mr MediaX collaborates with Zimbabwean based graphic designer Vuyi Chaza and local filmmaking duo Mel Media to help give a unique insight into the real lives of the people on the streets of Harare, away from the stereotypical images and perceptions usually driven by the media.

The project will launch with a 1 day interactive exhibition and installation at ROOM Gallery & Projects in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg on 30 November. On 2 December, the project will showcase at the Mr Chaps Grooming Social event at On Pointe Premium Venue in Fourways. It will then be followed with a weeklong Instagram photography & gif animation exhibition by Mr MediaX & Vuyi Chaza, concluding with the launch of a Website for the project. The project is proudly supported by an ANT Funding Grant from Pro Helvetia Johannesburg financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It is also supported by South Africa’s largest online mall, Zasttra.com
