Vitshois Mwilambwe is in Switzerland in May/June in the context of a month-long research and networking trip, aimed at building connection between his project and residency space in Kinshasa (DRC), Kin Art Studio, and relevant organisations and residency spaces in Switzerland. Mwilambwe will also participate in the Kongo am Rhein project led by Isabelle Chariatte of the Literature and Language department at the University of Basel and In-Koli Jean Bofane (DRC). The project alsio forms part of the cultural programme of the European Conference for African Studies being convened at the end of June 2017.

A prominent figure among a younger generation of artists from the DRC, Vitshois Mwilambwe Bondo was born in Kinshasa in 1981. He studied Visual Arts at the Academy of Kinshasa, receiving a diploma from the Institute of the Art Schools as well as from the Art Academy in 2000 and 2003. He continued his studies at the Strasbourg School of Art and has since taught at the Academy of Kinshasa and at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He has over the last number of years been developing the Kin Art Studio prject as an artist network and residency programme based in Kinshasa, aimed at artists from the DRC and internationally.
