Valentina Pini

South Africa | Multi-Disciplinary

February - April — Multi-Disciplinary

Born in 1982 in Ticino, Switzerland, Valentina Pini lives and works in Zürich. She studied Fine Art in Geneva (HEAD), Akademie der bildenden Künste Vienna and she graduated in 2015 with an MA in Sculpture at Royal College of Art, London.

Pini has a fascination with reaction and evolution of materials, alchemy and phenomenological experience. The mediums of her choice are installation, photos and sculpture.

During her residency Pini aims to expand her research in the topic of magic and use it as an opportunity to create new multidisciplinary works.

“The residency would allow me to move my research into the field of contemporary occult practices. This research would be focused on new religious movements, such as Wicca, but also on the practices of South African traditional healers such as the diviner (sangoma) and the herbalist (inyanga),” she says.
