June — Dance

Nadine Mckenzie is a qualified integrated dance teacher, receiving training by Alito Alessi at the ImpulsTanz International festival in Vienna in 2010. She has been nominated for numerous accolades and awards, receiving a Tribute Award in 2013 and an Imagine award in 2018. Nadine has produced many works as a performer/ teacher in a wheelchair and has established herself as a well- recognised figure within the performing arts community both nationally and internationally.

Nadine is one of the co-founders of the Unmute Dance Company, where she is current artistic director. In the company she is also a performer, facilitator and aspiring choreographer. Nadine is also the co-curator of Unmute’s annual ArtsAbility Festival.

Nadine has been invited by inclusive dance company BewegGrund to be part of this year’s inclusive IntegrART dance festival in Bern from 13-21 June 2019. She will participate as a spectator and also run workshops for people with and without disabilities interested in doing inclusive works. Nadine will also be facilitating discussions which will be focused on inclusion for people with disabilities in the arts.

The work between BewegGrund and Unmute started in 2017. Since then there has been positive growth and exchange between the companies realised through residencies and the creation of new work. This has increased interest and possibilities of further exchange between Unmute and other artists from Switzerland. During her residency, Nadine hopes to meet with other artists and festival curators and further engage and build new working relationships and possible exchanges for new works.
