4 April – 4 May — Music
Luca Forcucci is a composer, artist, writer and scholar of Swiss and Italian citizenship based in Berlin. He will be conducting research in the SADC region from 4 April to 4 May 2017 as part of his research residency.
His research observes the perceptive and dynamic properties/relations of sound and space. The field of possibilities is explored in music and art as experience. In this context, he is interested in perception and consciousness.
Following on previous research in South Africa, Luca Forcucci will work closely with Matchume Zango [Mozambique] and Cara Stacey [Swaziland], doing collaborative recordings and recording of local soundscapes.
Furthermore, Luca will investigate the exploration of sound and perception of data and how this can enter the sphere of electroacoustic music composition. The idea is to propose the soundscapes collected in Mozambique and Swaziland to sonify the data from space, and develop a composition.
He holds a PhD in Sonic Arts and Technology from De Montfort University, a MA in Sonic Arts from Queens University of Belfast and has an extensive background in architecture.
Luca regularly lectures in universities around the globe (USP São Paulo, UNESP São Paulo, UFRJ Rio de Janeiro, UCR California, UdK Berlin, ZhDK Zürich, EPFL Lausanne, Basel University, SIVA Shanghai, UCLA in Munich 3M Lab).
