CubeZ is a Swiss-South African trio consisting of Roland Dahinden (trombone) and Hildegard Kleeb (piano) from Switzerland and Cameron Harris (interactive electronic music) from South Africa. The trio formed out of a series of jam sessions following Roland and Hildegard’s first visit to South Africa with their project Recall Pollock.
Since formalising the trio under the leadership of Roland, CubeZ have played various concerts and along the way their music has constantly evolved. They have been invited to take part in the Bowed Electrons Festival in Cape Town hosted by the South African College of Music of the University of Cape Town on 24-25 August 2019. During which they will perform and give talks on their music. CubeZ will then travel to Johannesburg and Pretoria for further performances, jam sessions and workshops as well as to spend four days recording an album, the first for the trio.
Roland says: “We would like to use the opportunity to be in South Africa again for jam sessions in order to get to know more South African musicians and to cultivate an intercultural dialogue. CubeZ is developing into one of my main projects, and recording the album is both a decisive artistic project for us as well as an indispensable international communication tool.”
