Drummer, multi-instrumentalist and electronic producer, Christian Pahud will be in Johannesburg on a three month residency where he hopes to create a mixed arts project based on the meeting between African culture and his own experiences and perspective as a Swiss artist.

“My intention is to study possible interactions between music and plastic arts within the context of African culture to complete a global multifaceted project encompassing both cultures and mediums. The concrete goal is the recording of an album in collaboration with local artists, and the creation of plastic art pieces,” he says.

A practicing artisit for almost 20 years, Pahud has created music for both film and theatre. As a visual artist,  he has contributed creations such as drawings, installations, and videos to expositions nationally and abroad (Lausanne, Zürich, New-York, Paris, Casablanca).

Pahud currently works as an art teacher at the University of Art and Design Lausanne  (ECAL).

“Being nominated for the 2015 Swiss Music Prize has planted the seed of a desire to devote myself entirely, at least for a given period, to the creation of a new project. A residence in the continent that has largely inspired my compositions thus far, is the ideal opportunity for such an enterprise,” he says.
