Studios Kabako: Kisangani training and skills development programme

Since 2018, Studios Kabako has been training a dozen young people from the town of Kisangani in film-making techniques, documentary and fiction writing, post-production and executive production. The organisation has developed a new training programme that aims to further empower these young people with skills in stage management, lighting, sound and post-production, which can be utilised in the various activities of Studios Kabako.
Between November 2021 and January 2022, 8 young people will participate in a skills development course combining theoretical knowledge and practical techniques. The training will focus on stage management, lighting, sound and post-production, and result in three Studios Kabako productions being created for streaming.
The project arises in response to the extreme challenges the pandemic has exacerbated for many artists and young people on the continent, in the DRC and in Kisangani. With “Letters from the Continent”, Studios Kabako looked to make a gesture of solidarity with the young artists of the continent. With this project, the organisation wishes to bring this economic and political gesture to the level of the local community of Kisangani, who face increasingly fragile economic situations.
