The 4th Boda Boda Lounge

DR of Congo
For its 4th edition, the Boda Boda Lounge is themed And now bite the hand that feeds you and has been curated by third.space, a collective by Joao Roxo (Mozambique) and Russel Hlongwane (South Africa), and will include screenings in 18 cities on the continent from the end of November 2020. The selection includes video artworks by 16 artists from the African continent and the diaspora. Boda Boda Lounge is a collaboration between WAZA and VANSA and about 15 other independent African art centres. This edition was particularly noteworthy as for the first time, the official selection included three Congolese video artworks.
To mark this advance in the practice of video art in Congo, Waza Art Centre will host two evenings of screenings in Lubumbashi as well as partner with Kin Art Studio to host screenings in Kinshasa and give particular visibility to the projection/installation of the videos. The 3 Congolese video artists will be present at the screenings, and a special focus will be placed on the female video artists who feature prominently in this year’s selection.
The screenings will take place at Kin Art Studio on 24 November 2020 and the installation will last until 1 December 2020.
The 2020 edition of Boda Boda Lounge project will be presented from May to June 2021 in Basel (Switzerland) in partnership with SALTS. This is the first presentation of the Boda Boda project outside the African continent. This collaboration is the result of conversations that started at the Congo Biennale in 2019 between WAZA director Patrick Mudekereza and SALTS director Samuel Leuenberger, and forms part of a longer joint-programming project between the two organisations.
