Closed physical borders – opening new creative boundaries! Dancing towards KANDA YETU

CulturArte Studio is one of the ten key Regional Mobility Partners across the region that we work with towards strengthening artistic networks, the mobility and development of artists, promoting new collaborations and systematic exchanges among cultural operators within the region.

Closed physical borders have opened new creative boundaries for the 3rd edition of KANDA YETU (OUR REGION in Swahili). A regional network for residency and artistic production in Southern Africa, this initiative aims to promote new strategies and dynamics for artistic production in the region, with a particular focus on the contemporary dance field. The programme aims to stimulate new channels of dialogue, exchange, collaborations and opportunities for creation and artistic production. The initiative is part of the 2018-2020 programme of CulturArte.
Curator and artistic director of the programme, Panaibra Canda, has developed a new format this year and selected 10 performance artists from Mozambique, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa to participate in a residency lead by experienced tutors from the region. During October, the dancers and tutors will work in small groups to exchange ideas, practices and develop collaborations and creative processes. The results from these workshops will be shared online from 4-6 November during the 3rd International Dance Symposium.
