Dance professionals from the region gather in Maputo for Kanda Yetu

CulturArte Studio is one of the ten key Regional Mobility Partners across the region that we work with towards strengthening artistic networks, the mobility and development of artists, promoting new collaborations and systematic exchanges among cultural operators within the region.
From October 28 to November 14 2019, the second regional dance meeting will be held in Maputo at CulturArte Studio in the context of Kanda Yetu – A professional Southern African Exchange programme in the field of Contemporary dance.
KANDA YETU, which in Swahili means OUR REGION, is a Regional Network for Residence and Artistic Production in Southern Africa, an initiative that aims to promote a new strategic and dynamics in the artistic production in the region, in particular on the contemporary dance field, stimulating new channels of dialogue, exchange, collaborations and residences for creation and artistic production. The initiative is part of the 2018-2020 programme of CulturArte.
The first edition was held in 2018 with a three-day symposium focusing around the theme “Change and exchange”. Delegates from South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe and Madagascar joined local Mozambique artists for a series of works, exchange of experiences and artistic showcase through the platform “THE SUBJECT”.
The theme for the 2019 edition is “Body-Thinking Together”. The first week will involve dance workshop exchange sessions between local artists, and the second week a professional encounter between young Southern Africa artists.
On 14 of November at Fernando Leite Couto Foundation the 2nd International Dance Symposium will take place – a group reflection on “the work behind a production” – followed by an informal gathering in the evening.
