The Festival d’Art Urbain is an annual public arts festival organised by Is’Art Galerie / La Teinturerie in Madagascar. The festival runs over two weeks from 18th October to 1st November 2019 in Antsirabe with a dynamic programme of visual performance, installation and art in public spaces, and closes with an exhibition and a show on 8th and 9th November 2019 in Antananarivo.
Alongside the public programme the festival includes a 10-day residency, providing a space for artists from Madagascar, Indian Ocean Islands and Africa to come together to create, share and educate. The festival invites artists to perform in the streets and many other public spaces around the island.
The theme for 2019 is Attent’Art.
Art has always been an expression of freedom. To defend an ideal or a position is to defend one’s choice, one’s freedom to choose, sometimes at the risk of one’s life. To be engaged is to focus on this natural and fundamental value of mankind.
