The friendship between Swiss-Angolan composer Florence Chitacumbi and New York- based French multi-instrumentalist Mino Cinélu was born out of a magic encounter in 2005 during the recording of Chitacumbi’s album Regards Croisés, an album in which Cinelu’s percussions sublimate the singer’s voice.
In this context, building on their incredible collaborations with internationally celebrated artists, the two friends started experimenting together while performing at various venues across Europe. Their interest in further enlarging their research to other lands led them to Africa. There, the project “Reunion” was presented and acclaimed in several countries, including Burkina Faso at the festival Jazz à Ouaga and in Durban, South Africa at The Chairman Jazz Club.
The duo now return to the region by invitation for a special tour in South Africa during April and May 2019. For this new music journey, the two artists will pursue a fresh creative approach, articulated around sophisticated, rhythmic and melodic arrangements that will push the voice and percussion’s performance towards new frontiers. For the occasion, the two artists will be accompanied by guitarist Christophe Bovet (Bee Bee Honey; Tiza Brown).
The original songs that will be performed are a reminder of Chitacumbi’s strong roots in Jazz and Afro-soul, enhanced by Cinelu’s ability to make, in the words of his late friend Miles Davis, “any music swing”.
