Neopost Foofwa travels to Mali and Burkina Faso

Swiss dance company Neopost Foofwa has been invited to work with local artists, host workshops and present work at Fari Foni Waati Festival in Bamako, Mali, and Rencountres Professionnelles des Danxeurs de Bobo in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
Both festivals are relatively new, with an emphasis on engagement with context, and working with local artists. As part of Foofwa d’Imobilité’s more spanning “GLocal” project, he brings his works Dancewalk and Dancesongs to new audiences and artists in West Africa. Glocal is articulated around the notions of being-here and being-elsewhere in our globalised world. Foofwa asks – how should we think about such notions as home or outside, native or foreigner, citizen or stateless person, traveller, tourist, migrant or refugee? How should we look at borders, differences, and the growing wealth gap as 21st -century-globalised-beings? Where does the here and the elsewhere necessarily become a question for us, as 21st -century-globalised-beings?
Choreographer, dancer and artistic director of Neopost Foofwa, Foofwa d’Imobilité is one of the Swiss contemporary dance scenes more established and awarded artists. He studied at the Geneva School of Dance before joining the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany (1987-1990), then joined the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in New York where he performed 13 creations of the choreographer between 1991 and 1998. His own choreographic work began in New York in 1998 with multimedia solos. In 2000 he founded Neopost Foofwa in Geneva.
