Kopano Maroga to contribute to ‘Strategies for Resistance’ in New Delhi

Gati Dance Forum has invited South African performer Kopano Maroga to attend “Strategies for Resistance” in New Delhi, this October.
This project aims to create a body of writing that stems from the Gati Dance Forum’s engagement over the last 10 years with teaching methodologies, research and performance-making with the intention of adding to the critical discourse around performance practices in South Asia. Gati aims to publish an annual journal by commissioning new critical writing by practitioners and researchers.
The theme for the first edition of the journal is “Strategies of Resistance”. For this first edition, the journal has invited contributions from writers, scholars and practitioners in South and South East Asia, and one Swiss writer who offers a perspective on the role Swiss institutions might play in furthering provocative performance work by Indian artists, simultaneously subverting institutional boundaries and reshaping an understanding of cultural policy in the West.
Kopano Maroga is a black and queer performance artist, writer and cultural worker. They are currently pursuing their Masters in Live, Interdisciplinary and Public Art through the Institute of Creative Arts at the University of Cape Town researching queer semiotics and other cool shit and they are the co-founding editor of ANY BODY ZINE, a publication about dance, movement and embodied politics. Their writing can be found in the publications ArtThrob, adjective and Prufrock.
Additionally, the journal also seeks to widen its geographic focus in search of fresh writing on performance from the Global South.
