KINANI: Re-connecting Identities

YODINE Produções Técnicas presents the 7th edition of International Contemporary Dance Platform —  KINANI, from November 21 to 26.  This edition includes the presence of artists from 14 countries: Mozambique, Portugal, United States of America, France, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Spain, Comoros Island, Mayotte, Burkina Faso, Namibia, Andorra, Congo and Madagascar.

KINANI is a platform that aims to promote contemporary dance and the professionalisation of young choreographers through the implementation of training programs.  Founded in 2005, Kinani is an international biennial with 10 years and 6 editions under it’s belt, the Festival has found a place among the great contemporary dance events in the international scene.

This 7th edition of KINANI navigates the theme “Re-connecting identities” through artistic residences for choreographers and traditional dance groups.  With this issue, KINANI experiments with new looks in the field of contemporary dance creations containing musicalities and traditional movements within a contemporary concept, questioning the time the place of the traditional in contemporary language and the formation of identity in a context of accelerated globalization.

In recent years, Kinani is in the heart of the city of Maputo and develops innovative actions to mobilize an ever wider public.  Kinani is proof that it is possible to bring projects of research, experimentation and exchange between the continents to the center stage in Maputo.

This year’s program has more than 24 shows and installations, will be in four emblematic venues in Maputo City: The Center cultural Franco Mozambican, Teatro Avenida, the Museum of Fisheries and 4th Floor (alternative space)
