Southern Africa Theatre Development Camp

Dates: 26 April – 05 May.
Harare, Zimbabwe

The Southern Africa Theatre Development Camp is a programme that seeks to enhance theatre making and performance, arts management and entrepreneurship skills among young theatre professionals from the SADC region.

The programme is premised on the need to empower young mid-career theatre artists who most times are at the periphery of theatre making in their countries. The majority of young people from the region have limited opportunities for quality theatre training and collaboration. The Southern Africa Theatre Development camp therefore provides an opportunity for these young professionals to enhance their skills and develop networks for collaboration within the region.

In 2017, the programme, which is being coordinated by Savanna Trust, brings together 10 young theatre practitioners from Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe to undergo an intensive two week theatre making and performance master class.

The camp will cover scriptwriting, theatre directing, acting, arts entrepreneurship and management. It will be held during a major festival in Zimbabwe so that the participants will, as part of their learning, have an opportunity to watch and experience different theatre productions at the festival as well as network with other professional artists.

At the end of the workshop, the participants will perform a short theatre presentation for an invited audience.

The Camp will take place from the 26th of April to the 5th of May 2017 in Harare.
